Computers are required in almost all sectors of the economy; Energy, Public Sector Administration, and the Private Sector. The most efficient way to use these computers and still save on energy consumption, maintenance and hardware is by using NComputing Virtual desktops.

NComputing involves one PC being shared by multiple users at the same time. One PC is used as a central point and monitors are added to it using NComputing hardware provided by ITCORP (U) LTD.

Shows 10 monitors connected to 1 central PC

The advantages of using the NCompouting technology are;
  1. Lower purchasing cost since you only buy the central PC system and any number of monitors to connect.
  2. Lower energy consumption since these devices only use less than 12 wts of power. You can save up to 85% on power usage with this technology
  3. Lower maintenance costs as you only maintain the central PC system
  4. All applications are installed on the central PC system and not on individual computers which reduces costs on licensing eg. Anti-virus
  5. Can be easily incorporated into an existing infrastructure in case you needed to add stations but do not want to buy full computer system.

X-series: Second card initialization issue

Symptom:

Sessions (or workstations) in two card installs show no or black screens upon reboot. The second card of X300, X350 or X550 products may not power on at start or upon restart of the host PC.

Cause:

If the installation went well and the issue is intermittent upon restart and using a DG41RQ and the older DG31PR chipset; the most likely issue is the driver of the chipset's onboard Realtek NIC adapter has some compatibility issue.

Solution:

Download a compatible NIC adapter driver using the attached file link below, and install the driver on the PC.

This solution may apply to similar issue with these Intel chipsets:

  • Intel® Desktop Board D945GCLF
  • Intel® Desktop Board D945GCLF2
  • Intel® Desktop Board D945GCNL
  • Intel® Desktop Board D945GCPE
  • Intel® Desktop Board D945GSEJT
  • Intel® Desktop Board D945PDK
  • Intel® Desktop Board DG31PR
  • Intel® Desktop Board DG41MJ
  • Intel® Desktop Board DG41RQ
  • Intel® Desktop Board DG41TY

Symptom:
In rare cases the installation of X550 or X350 cards may result in partial functionality upon install. The X-series stations may not start and all screens remain black or freeze at "Station Stopped, Waiting to Start". These errors are generally due to hostPC resources that are being blocked by other functions. These errors may happen on single card or dual card installs. Please see attached PDF for more information and screen shots that detail the following summary.
Cause:
There are three main identifiable causes of the above issue, listed in order of likely occurrence.
1.     IRQ conflict (or lack of open IRQ ports) When the PC begins to initialize it will assign devices IRQs, in some cases the PC will run out of IRQs which will prevent a terminal from starting. Examples of devices that commonly cause IRQ conflicts are:
§  LPT1 Port
§  Serial Port
§  Intelreg; Remote PC Assist Technology - SOL (COM3)
§  Intelreg; Active Management Technology - SOL (COM3)
Solution:

This is usually resolved by disabling the Serial and Parallel (LPT1) ports in the system BIOS. In addition to the aforementioned, if any Intel branded technologies is running over the COM3 port they must be
disabled in the Device Manager.

For example, to disable Intel Active Management Technology:
1) Enter BIOS Setup by pressing [F2] during boot.
2) Go to the Intel ME menu.
3) Set Manageability Feature to None.
4) Exit and save changes [F10].

Notes: This solution has been primarily seen on Intel based Dell and HP
systems that load a maximum number of IRQ requests, including the Intel
utilities.

X-series: Intel Active Management Technology may cause IRQ conflict with PCI card

Symptom:

X-series stations don't start and all screens remain blank or freeze at "Station Stopped, Waiting to Stop".

Cause:

When the vSpace host begins to initialize it assigns devices IRQs. The PC may run out of IRQs if any Intel branded technologies, such as Intel Active Management Technology (IAMT), are running over COM3. Intel AMT uses out-of-band communication for system management access to client systems. It often can be disabled.

Solution:

Disable Intel Active Management through Device Manager or Disable Intel Active Management Technology:
  1. Enter BIOS Setup by pressing [F2] during boot.
  2. Go to the Intel ME menu.
  3. Set Manageability Feature to None.
  4. Exit and save changes [F10].
This solution primarily applies to Intel based name brand PCs.

NComputing X300: HP DC7800 - Stations will not start

Symptom:

Stations will not start on single- or dual-card X300 installations, and all x300 screens remain black.

Cause:

There currently exists a conflict between hardware drivers on the DC7800 and the NComputing X300 hardware drivers. There are two solutions which can resolve this, listed below.

Solution 1:

Setting change in the device manager are needed, this process involves disabling a device driver which can result in some devices not functioning. If you are not comfortable with this process, consult an IT professional before attempting.
Disable "COM3" in device manager: the Intel Active Management Technology (IAMT) hardware runs through the COM3 port, which is a "virtual" serial port. This causes a conflict with our drivers. This conflict can be resolved by disabling the COM3 port in Device Manager. This solution is valid for both 1 and 2 card implementations of the NComputing X300.
Disable a conflicting IRQ's for USB host controller.
For single card installations only.
You can identify the conflicting IRQ's by opening the Run utility, typing "msinfo32", and hitting Enter.
Within the System Information utility, go to Hardware Resources > Conflicts/Sharing and wait for the right-hand pane to refresh with your system information.
Once loaded, scroll down until you find the IRQ's for the X300 Bus Enumerator and three Graphics Controllers.
Under this IRQ, there should also be one or more USB Controllers listed.
Now, open Device Manager (right-click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager), and expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers category. Locate the USB controller identified above, right-click it, and select "disable".
Do this for every USB Controller that shares an IRQ with the X300 devices.

Desktop Virtualization and Eco-Friendly Computing

We can't live without PCs, so let’s learn how to live with them in a way that makes them friendlier to the environment. Currently, PC’s consume far too much electricity and generate too much e-waste to to be considered an Eco-friendly solution by today’s standards. With a typical PC taking approximately 110 watts to run, and with well over 1 billion of them on the planet, it’s easy to understand what the Silicon Valley Toxics Commission is saying about e-waste is being the fastest growing part of the waste stream.

The Global Impact of Billions of PCs

How many computers are actually in use? According to a report by Forrester Research, by the end of 2008, there were over one billion PCs in use worldwide.
As PC adoption grows globally, it is estimated that there will be more than two billion PCs in use by 2015. It took 27 years to reach one billion but will only take 7 more years to double that number. With this trend, something needs to change.
If NComputing systems were used at a ratio of 6 NComputing devices to each PC:
  • Energy use would decline by over 143 billion kilowatt hours per year
  • CO2 emissions would decrease by 114 million metric tons. That’s like planting 550 million trees!
E-waste would be reduced by 7.9 million metric tons

Green Computing is the FutureThe benefits of green computing are clear. As the number of PCs approaches 2 Billion by 2015, the potential savings related to energy use , CO2 emissions and e-waste are undeniable.

NComputing VDI & Faronics DeepFreeze

For schools and other organizations facing shrinking budgets, a dedicated IT energy management solution is an immediate and cost effective way to reduce computer energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Faronics Power Save keeps computers running when users need them, powers them down when they are inactive, and can prove its rapid return-on-investment through energy savings reports.

Faronics Deep Freeze instantly protects and preserves baseline computer configurations. No matter what changes a user makes to a workstation, simply restart to eradicate all changes and reset the computer to its original state - right down to the last byte. Expensive computer assets are kept running at 100% capacity and technical support time is reduced or eliminated completely. The result is consistent trouble-free computing on a truly protected and parallel network, completely free of harmful viruses and unwanted programs. While Deep Freeze provides bulletproof protection, its non-restrictive approach also improves user productivity and satisfaction. Placing no restrictions on a user's ability to access all system resources, users avoid the frustration of downtime due to software conflicts, operating system corruption, virus attacks, and many other problems. Users are always assured of computers that are consistently operable and available.

Deep Freeze is the only solution that effectively balances workstation security with user productivity. By mapping user and application data to a Thawed unprotected partition or drive, users are able to store their documents, pictures, music, etc., while still enjoying the total system consistency that Deep Freeze offers. Deep Freeze offers flexible scheduling options that enable IT administrators to easily create automated update and maintenance periods. Schedule Deep Freeze to allow system and important]virus definition updates to occur from predefined times—either with the Deep Freeze Enterprise Console or using your preferred third-party desktop management solution. The Deep Freeze Enterprise Console allows administrators to install, control, and manage Deep Freeze workstations from a single remote location, and hundreds or thousands of workstations can be protected across a distributed LAN, WAN or over the Internet. Deep Freeze’s reboot-to-restore concept significantly lowers Total Cost of Ownership for technology assets because of a vast reduction in time and cost spent maintaining and rebuilding machines. Deep Freeze workstations can be easily controlled and configured via the GUI Enterprise Console, and require no maintenance or definition file updates.
